Wayne Rooney aims a dig at Cristiano Ronaldo

Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo played together for 5 years at Old Trafford. The duo won a number of titles during their time together at Manchester United including a hattrick of Premier League titles and the Champions League. Ronaldo and Rooney formed a wonderful partnership on the field and they were a nightmare for any defence coming up against them.

Ronaldo’s return back to Manchester United has been a talking point this season and Wayne Rooney has weighed in his comments on the topic.

Rooney appeared at Sky Sports and he was asked if Ronaldo’s move has worked out for Manchester United or not to which the former England International replied:

No. Ronaldo has scored goals, he’s scored important goals in the Champions League early on in the season. He’s scored the hat-trick against Tottenham, but I think if you look into the future of the club, you have to go with younger, hungry players to lift Manchester United over the next 2-3 years.

Rooney also insisted that Manchester United must focus on younger players and leave Cristiano Ronaldo behind:

“He (Cristiano) obviously isn’t the player he was when he was in his 20s. And that happens, that’s football. He’s a goal threat, but I think Manchester United need young and hungry players.

Cristiano Ronaldo is Manchester United’s top scorer this season with 18 goals and despite the reds struggling for form, Cristiano Ronaldo has been their saviour on several occasions. Ronaldo’s 6 goals in the Champions League are the reason Manchester United came out of their group stage and he has scored the most goals against the Premier League top 6 this season despite playing for an under performing Manchester United side. Ronaldo is also rumored to move away from Old Trafford if the red devils fail to secure European Football for next season. The last two months will be extremely tough for Manchester Untied to secure something out of this season.

  1. Cristiano seems to be the only hungry player in the squad. He criticized Ronaldo at the start when there were speculations about him joining City now he says this. He is still jealous that Ronaldo stole his spotlight. He should be ashamed of himself for these comments. Ronaldo is giving 200% and no one is working hard like him.
