Pele, Maradona, Zidane and other legends on Ronaldo and Messi

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have lit up the football world for almost 20 years. The duo have dominated the football awards for over 10 years and now they are both reaching the end of their career. Messi who is younger than Ronaldo seems to be slowing down faster as compared to the old bro.

Over the years, legends have passed a number of comments on the two legendary players. Today we look into some of the best comments made on Messi and Ronaldo by some of the biggest names in World Football.

Pele: “If I had to set up a National Team, Cristiano Ronaldo would be my first pick.”

The three time World Cup winner sees Cristiano Ronaldo as the strongest International player in World Football right now and wants him to be the first player in his International Team.

Diego Maradona: “It’s not about Messi being better than Cristiano or Ronaldo being better than Messi. I think they’re equal. The goalkeepers are scared of Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi not so much because he doesn’t have Cristiano’s power.”

Maradona sees Ronaldo as a bigger threat to goalkeepers as compared to Messi. Maradona is also not a huge fan of Argentine’s leadership skills as he said:

Maradona: “Someone who goes 20 times to the toilet before a match can’t be a leader. There’s a need to take the leadership away from Messi.”

France legend and a former World Cup Winner, Zinedine Zidane said about Ronaldo: “Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player in history.”

Dutch legend Ruud Gullit also preffered Ronaldo over Messi as he said:

“For me, Cristiano is the best player ever. He’s won everything on a club level and also won the EURO with his country. He has 5 golden balls and has won wherever he went, in three different countries. Simply incredible.”

English Legend Frank Lampard has also changed his preference from Messi to Ronaldo as he said:

“I’ve always been a Messi man. But for what Ronaldo has done, his numbers and goals in big finals and semi finals, I think I’ll give him the edge now.”
