Maradona’s comments on why goalkeepers are more scared of Ronaldo than Messi

Diego Maradona was one of the greatest players the football World has ever seen. The man single handedly inspired Argentina to World Cup glory and his “Hand of God” goal against England remains one of the most controversial moments in football history.

Maradona’s love for football was immense. He was always involved in football even after his retirement. Football shows and coaching remained the number 1 priority for Maradona in his life after retirement.

An old video of Maradona has resurfaced where he pin points the difference between Ronaldo and Messi. The Argentina was a huge fan of his compatriot Messi but still his love for Ronaldo was pretty evident.

In the video, Maradona says:

“The goalkeepers are scared of Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi not so much because he doesn’t have Cristiano’s power.”

The reporter asked Maradona what do you think about Cristiano as a player to which he replied: “Wonderful”

The reporter further asked what do you like best about him? Maradona replied:

“How he defines the ball. You cannot let Cristiano get hold of the ball after the half way line and take a shot at the goal because goalies fear him.”

“Everyone knows Cristiano is an incredible player. He’s a goal machine. Barcelona is winning 1-0 and all of a sudden its 1-1 and he goes sshhhhh.”

“Another thing I have to say about Cristiano is that when the team needs him, he shows up. He has that.”

When asked about the better player between Ronaldo and Messi, Maradona said both are equal. However, he insisted the goalkeepers are more scared of Ronaldo:

“It’s not about Messi being better than Cristiano or Ronaldo being better than Messi. I think they’re equal. The goalkeepers are scared of Cristiano Ronaldo. Messi not so much because he doesn’t have Cristiano’s power.”
