Liverpool winger Sadio Mane is in the form of his life this season. Mane scored a crucial second goal in Liverpool’s Semi Final first leg win vs Villarreal. The goal puts Liverpool in the driving seat who travel to Spain with a 2-0 advantage. Mane has now scored 20 goals in all competitions this season.
Sadio Mane’s case for Ballon d’Or keeps growing stronger. The Senegal International insipired his country to the Africa Cup of Nations title and also helped them qualify to the World Cup. On club level, Mane continues to deliver for Liverpool who are in contention to win the Premier League and Champions League. If Liverpool manage to land both trophies, Mane would be a clear favorite for the Ballon d’Or.
Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp has responded to Sadio Mane Ballon d’Or claims. The Liverpool boss was asked if he considers Mane favourite for Ballon d’Or to which he responded:
“Mane has had an outstanding season and is an outstanding player. I have nothing to do with the Ballon d’Or nominations. I don’t understand it 100%”.
“Historically we have to win something to win the Ballon d’Or, most of the time it was like this. If you’re not Messi or Ronaldo you have to probably win the Champions League, which we haven’t done yet.“
Mane is world class. He again played a really good game for us but I don’t know how I can answer with the season not even over.”
“Give us a few more weeks and we will see where we end up. Sadio wants to contribute, he wants to help the team and that’s what I love most about it.”
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp suggests that winning the Champions League would be key to winning the Ballon d’Or. Mane would be looking to inspire his team to the Champions League title to get the biggest individual prize in football.
