Joan Laporta is confident that his team, FC Barcelona, will secure the LaLiga title this weekend, citing the great merit it would hold, the boost it would provide for his project, and the fact that it would be achieved at the home ground of one of their eternal rivals, Espanyol. The Barcelona president also reassured club members, during a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Som i Serem Barcelonista Fan Club in Torregrossa, about the health of the club.
“I hope that Sunday will be a day of joy and that we can celebrate the league, which will have been achieved through effort, commitment, hard work, and talent, but above all thanks to your support. It would be great if we could win the league there this weekend and you know why, there’s no need for me to explain it further,” said the Barcelona president. Xavi’s team will face Espanyol, who are fighting to avoid relegation, at the RCDE Stadium on Sunday.
“This league will have been achieved through effort, commitment, hard work, and talent.”
Laporta has emphasized the importance of winning the national league title for Barça fans and the significant message it sends to their rivals: “The stadium is full every Sunday, and the Barça fans believe again and have the desire, just like that banner in front of the Bernabéu that helped me win the elections and gave me votes. We are about to win important titles because the league is a significant one. The advantage we have over the second place is considerable, and we are on the right track. In the face of those who attack us at the moment, I ask that we stay more united than ever in defense of our shield and our essence.”
“They want us badly, and we receive attacks from those who don’t want things to go well for us, but don’t believe the apocalyptic messages.”Joan Laporta
The Catalan lawyer has also defended the institution’s model at the fan club meeting in the town of Lleida and has reassured the members that it will not become a publicly traded company, as some football circles have suggested. “You can rest assured. The club has always been and will always be yours, of the members. Barça is an invincible feeling that cannot be bought. We are being targeted and attacked by those who do not want us to succeed, but do not believe in the apocalyptic messages. We have worked very hard to save Barça from financial ruin. Barcelona is in recovery, but it has already been saved. The club is now financially sound. We must be very careful not to return to the situation we inherited. My fellow board members and I guarantee that one of the fundamental aspects, that the club remains in the hands of our members, will remain the same. We all build Barça every day and work as a team, always thinking of the club’s interests,” he concluded.
