Incredible Sadio Mane breaks Champions League record

Liverpool came from behind to seal a memorable 2-3 win vs Villarreal and reach the Champions League Final. Klopp’s side were given an early scare after Villarreal scored as early as the 3rd minute of the game. Villarreal doubled their lead minutes before the first half and entered the break with a 2-0 lead.

Klopp worked his magic during the half time team talk and Liverpool came out all guns blazing. Fabinho scored Liverpool’s first goal to make it 2-1 at the 62nd minute and just 5 minutes later Diaz scored to make it 2-2. Liverpool had already done enough as they went ahead 2-4 on aggregate.

However, Sadio Mane scored Liverpool’s match winning goal to win the game in the 74th minute and also win the tie with an aggregate score of 2-5.

Sadio Mane’s incredible season continues as the Senegal International has now scored 21 goals in all competitions. Mane also scored in the first leg vs Villarreal.

Mane’s goal vs Villarreal makes him the African player with the most knock out goals scored in Champions League.

Sadio Mane breaks Didier Drogba’s record who had scored 14 Champions League knock out goals for Chelsea. However, Mane’s striker vs Villarreal takes him one clear of Drogba with 15 knock out goals.

What’s more impressive about Mane’s record is that Sadio Mane has scored 15 UCL KO goals in 26 games whereas Drogba scored 14 UCL KO goals in 46 games.

Mane’s impressive season makes him a front runner for this year’s Ballon d’Or along with Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema. If Mane can inspire Liverpool to the Champions League title then there’s no one stopping Sadio Mane from taking the most prestigious individual prize in football history.
