Gerard Pique comments on Cristiano Ronaldo’s mentality

Gerard Pique vs Cristiano Ronaldo has been one of the hottest face offs in the last decade due to the duo competing in arguably the biggest fixture in club football, the El Clasico. Ronaldo has had Pique’s number on several occasions while the Spaniard has also had the Portuguese number for fair share. However, off the field the two share a surprisingly very pleasant relationship. Pique and Ronaldo also played together at Manchester United during the start of their careers.

Talking as a guest at “The Wild Project” show, Gerard Pique recalled memories of his time with Cristiano Ronaldo at Manchester United:

“I’ve always had a good relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo. When we played together, we met many times with other Portuguese and Brazilian teammates. Ronaldo used the mirror a lot at Manchester United. When he arrived at training the first thing he always did was look in the mirror. It was a lot of fun.”

Pique and Ronaldo played together at Manchester United before Pique moved to Barcelona and Ronaldo moved to Madrid which converted the two teammates into rivals in Spain. However, Pique still praises Ronaldo’s mentality from his experience at Man United: “Ronaldo’s mentality was sensational at Man United, despite being young.”

Both Pique and Ronaldo have struggled with their respective teams this season. Barcelona were knocked out of the Champions League in group stages and demoted to Europa League meanwhile Cristiano Ronaldo’s Manchester United are struggling for a top 4 finish. The reds might well miss out on European Football next season as they have failed to perform at the highest level.

Ronaldo has also been linked with a move away from Old Trafford if the reds fail to secure Champions League football for next season. The last 8 Premier League games are crucial for Manchester United in their bid to fight for top 4.
